Mount Royal University presently offers 12 four-year baccalaureate degrees with 32 majors, with a view to grow this mix to 15 degrees and 60 majors by 2025. Current degree offerings are unique, and include four-year bachelor degrees in interior design, midwifery, child studies and health and physical education, as well as arts, criminal justice, business administration, communication, computer information systems, education, nursing and science. About the Bissett School of Business
The Department of Accounting and Finance in the Bissett School of Business at Mount Royal University (MRU) invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured position in Accounting at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. The position will commence July 01, 2018, subject to final budgetary approval. To be considered for the rank of Associate Professor and hired with tenure, candidates must possess tenure at an appropriately qualified, accredited post-secondary academic institution.
The Bissett School of Business is a primary destination for undergraduate students seeking a high quality business education. The school employs over 50 full-time faculty and a number of sessional or contract faculty. The school is comprised of a highly motivated group of scholars, who are passionate about teaching while engaged in innovative scholarship. In order to support its objectives, the Bissett School of Business benefits from the associated Institute for Community Prosperity and the Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship – making the school unique among Canadian undergraduate business schools.
The Bissett School of Business offers a four-year Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree. Students can pursue majors in accounting, general management (with concentrations in financial analysis, financial services, international business, innovation and entrepreneurship, social innovation and supply chain management), human resources and marketing. In addition to these majors, the Bissett School of Business offers several minors including accounting, finance, finance and economics, financial services, business and society and international business, as well as a diploma in Aviation, and certificates in advanced accounting, human resources, and marketing. Approximately 2100 students are enrolled in the school’s programs.
About the Role
New faculty are hired into one of two work patterns. The teaching/ scholarship/ service pattern (TSS) has a focus on teaching with the requirement that the faculty member be involved in a research program as well as service to the Mount Royal community. The teaching/ service pattern (TS) has a focus on teaching and service only. The preferred candidate for this position will adopt a TSS work pattern. There is an option to change work patterns after tenure.
The successful candidate will become an integral member of the Accounting faculty team. Consequently he/she will be expected to contribute in ways which may include course coordination, coaching student competition teams, mentoring student clubs, assisting with the development of curriculum, and serving on departmental or university committees. At Mount Royal University our industry connections are an important and integral part of our programs. The successful candidate will be required to actively liaise with industry partners or professional associations on behalf of the Bissett School of Business.
A completed PhD in accounting by the time of appointment is strongly preferred. A Master’s degree is required. Additionally, the successful candidate will have several of the following attributes:
• Current, active scholarship program in accounting
• Teaching experience at the post-secondary level
• Professional accounting experience
• A professional accounting designation (CPA or international equivalent)
• Be able to teach introductory through to senior level accounting courses
• Strong interpersonal, presentation and communication skills
A complete dossier should be submitted including curriculum vitae, list of three (3) references, evidence of teaching excellence, and, if the teaching/ scholarship/ service (TSS) pattern is desirable, evidence of intent to pursue a research program.
