DUTIES:

The School of Business and Economics (SOBE) at Thompson Rivers University invites applicants for a tenure track position, open-rank, Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor, in the Department of Accounting and Finance. SOBE is a dynamic part of TRU with a rapidly expanding international student body. It offers a wide array of undergraduate certificate, diploma, and degree programs in business and economics. As well, it offers a graduate diploma, MBA, Master of Environmental Economics and Management (MEEM) and Master of Science in Environmental Economics and Management (MScEEM). These programs are taught to domestic and international students using both on-campus and distance delivery methods. As part of its programs, SoBE offers active student learning as well as the globalization of the business environment.

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in financial and managerial accounting and maintain an active research agenda. Faculty are also expected to make service contributions to their profession, department, school, institution or community by participating on various committees and contributing to other initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PhD or DBA in accounting at the time of commencement of the appointment. Applicants near completion of PhD or DBA may be considered.
  • PhD or DBA in a relevant field will be considered if accompanied by a proven record of research in accounting.
  • Superior teaching, service, and research abilities.
  • Canadian professional accounting designation is preferred.

About the Bissett School of Business
The Department of Accounting and Finance in the Bissett School of Business at Mount Royal University (MRU) invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured position in Finance at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. The position will commence July 01, 2018, subject to final budgetary approval. To be considered for the rank of Associate Professor and hired with tenure, candidates must possess tenure at an appropriately qualified, accredited post-secondary academic institution.

The Bissett School of Business is a primary destination for undergraduate students seeking a high quality business education. The school employs over 50 full-time faculty and a number of sessional or contract faculty. The school is comprised of a highly motivated group of scholars, who are passionate about teaching while engaged in innovative scholarship. In order to support its objectives, the Bissett School of Business benefits from the associated Institute for Community Prosperity and the Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship – making the school unique among Canadian undergraduate business schools.

The Bissett School of Business offers a four-year Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree. Students can pursue majors in accounting, general management (with concentrations in financial analysis, financial services, international business, innovation and entrepreneurship, social innovation and supply chain management), human resources and marketing. In addition to these majors, the Bissett School of Business offers several minors including accounting, finance, finance and economics, financial services, business and society and international business, as well as a diploma in Aviation, and certificates in advanced accounting, human resources, and marketing. Approximately 2100 students are enrolled in the school’s programs.

About the Role
New faculty are hired into one of two work patterns. The teaching/ scholarship/ service pattern (TSS) has a focus on teaching with the requirement that the faculty member be involved in a research program as well as service to the Mount Royal community. The teaching/ service pattern (TS) has a focus on teaching and service only. The preferred candidate for this position will adopt a TSS work pattern. There is an option to change work patterns after tenure.

The successful candidate will become an integral member of our Finance team. Consequently the faculty member will be expected to contribute in ways which may include course coordination, coaching student competition teams, mentoring student clubs, assisting with the development of curriculum, and serving on departmental or university committees. At Mount Royal University our industry connections are an important and integral part of our programs. The successful candidate will be required to actively liaise with industry partners or professional associations on behalf of the Bissett School of Business.

A completed PhD in finance or economics by the time of appointment is strongly preferred. A Master’s degree is required. Additionally, the successful candidate will have several of the following attributes:
• Current, active scholarship program in finance or a closely related discipline
• Teaching experience at the post-secondary level
• Professional financial experience
• A professional financial designation ( CFA, CFP )
• Be able to teach introductory through to senior level finance courses
• Strong interpersonal, presentation and communication skills

Three-Year Limited Term Appointment, Financial Economics, Lakehead University

The successful applicant will be an experienced and effective teacher and an accomplished scholar with a national or international reputation for high quality research and teaching. He or she will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, supervise graduate students, and conduct research focused on capital markets, derivatives, investments, or on a related topic. The successful applicant will contribute to both the graduate and undergraduate teaching programs of the FBA, will lead the development of curricular innovation in Finance, will capitalize on the White Trading Lab in the FBA, and will serve as an advisor to the FBA Student Managed Investment Fund. The Chair will be expected to provide mentorship to junior faculty in teaching and research, maintain an active research program, and collaborate with disciplines inside and outside the FBA, including Accounting and Economics.

Applicants must have a PhD and have a demonstrated commitment to teaching and research in a university environment. Applicants must have demonstrated research productivity commensurate with the rank of appointment and will be expected to maintain a high level of research productivity. Preference will be given to applicants who are not only recognized as excellent teachers and researchers, but have shown pedagogical leadership.
